Thomas “Tom” Durant

Thomas Warren “Tom” Durant, 83, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully at 6:15 AM, Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his home. Tom was born October 6, 1941, in Zanesville, the son of Raymond and Emma (Schwallie) Durant. Tom is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Dottie (Schultheis) Durant; two beloved daughters, Heidi (Rich) McCoy of Westerville and Abby (Chris) Zimmerman of Worthington; four wonderful grandchildren, Madeline and Mia McCoy and Zachary and Zade Zimmerman; one brother, Bill Durant; one sister-in-law, Polly Russo; a brother-in-law, Stan Schultheis and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Tom was a graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School and served his country as a member of the Army National Guard. He was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus # 505, and served on the school board of St. Nicholas School. He was employed with Young GMC for 30 years and retired from Park National Bank following over 25 years of service.
Tom had a love for basketball, playing himself into his mid-50’s, and watching his daughters play at Bishop Rosecrans. He never missed a sporting or school event for his girls, and up until recently for his grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, from the courses of the Zanesville Country Club and Vanderbilt Country Club in Naples, FL, to the many courses he and his friends played during family vacations.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Paul and Florence (Milstead) Schultheis; one sister, Betty (Durant) McGinnis; brothers-in-law, Tom McGinnis, Frank Russo and Kenny Schultheis; sisters-in-law, Nancy Durant, Jenny Schultheis and Sister Mary Lina Schultheis, and one great niece, Julie (Schultheis) McGlade.
Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where a Christian Vigil will follow at 6:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 East Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Stephen Ondrey as celebrant. Tom will be laid to rest in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Tom’s memory.
