Three New Cruisers To Be Purchased For ZPD
Zanesville City Council held their first meeting for the month of September Monday evening.
An ordinance allowing the purchase of three new cruisers for the Zanesville Police Department appeared on the agenda. The Police Department has received three new cars every year for the last three years. Mayor Jeff Tilton told us more about the vehicles.
“These are all wheel drive vehicles and they are more of the SUV type that we can put a lot more equipment into and get hopefully better gas mileage than what we got off the Crown Vics that we used to drive.” Explained Tilton.
The ordinance passed as emergency Monday. Tilton said the cruisers are obtained through State purchase and will cost seventy six thousand, five hundred and thirty nine dollars. Tilton said if an order is placed before September 25, a discount of sixteen thousand dollars will be available. Tilton said getting the three vehicles ready for the streets can be an expensive process.
“The cars themselves are about ninety thousand dollars. We put all the equipment, the lights, the sirens, the bells and whistles–it’s about one hundred and twenty thousand dollars that we will spend on these vehicles.”
Tilton said the officers at the Zanesville Police Department enjoy having the new vehicles. He said they especially like the all wheel drive feature, which allows for easier patrolling during the snowy winter months.
