Three Transported in Maple Accident

Three people are in the hospital after a head on collision on Maple Ave. earlier Thursday evening.

Sergeant Jon McCoy of the Zanesville Police Department said that they received a call just before 7 p.m. with reports of a white SUV driving recklessly on Maple Ave. Shortly after the initial call, a secondary call reported a two car injury accident at the intersection of Maple Ave. and Dresden Rd.

When ZPD arrived, they discovered that one vehicle involved matched the description of the reckless driving report.

McCoy said a male driving the white SUV was heading south bound on Maple and an adult male driver and one female juvenile passenger in the black SUV were headed north bound when the white SUV apparently swerved into oncoming traffic.

The two vehicles crashed head on causing extensive front end damage. Both drivers needed to be extricated. McCoy said all were transported to Genesis Hospital. Traffic was delayed due to the cleanup and a large amount of gasoline spilled from both tanks.

“Right now they have some saw dust type stuff they put down to soak it up and they’ll probably hose it off and dilute it as much as possible to make it safe for vehicles to travel through,” said McCoy.

The Zanesville Police Department was assisted by the Zanesville Fire Department, Falls Township Fire Department, and Genesis EMS. No citations have been issued at this time as the crash remains under investigation.
