ZANESVILLE, OH – Tim Collins has been named the ArtCOZ Artist of the Month for February.

Collins says he’s still trying to find a name for his art style but says it’s like making a collage just on a bigger scale.

He starts with an empty canvas, working on the background of the painting, and then jumps into cutting Styrofoam to make the works 3D.

“Get the Styrofoam out, carved this guy out, took a little time, painted him, and put him on top.” Collins said. “I put these squares on, they’re just paper, and the rest is history.”

Collins says the size of his works varies as well as the time that goes into each one of them.

He says his latest piece that will be on display for the First Friday Artwalk took almost 6 months to complete.

Collins also shared what it meant to him to be named as artist of the month.

“Well, I appreciate someone coming forward and, I don’t know how to put it into words, but it’s very flattering.” Collins said. “It means someone’s paying attention to what you’re doing, because sometimes I’m just sitting here going, ‘What am I doing this for?’, but I get a lot of satisfaction out of it, especially when they’re done.”

Collins’ work will be on display at the Y-Bridge Cultural Arts Center, located at 8 Main St. in Zanesville, from 5 to 8PM.
