Tons of Truck meet and greet

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Ohio State Highway Patrol hosts its first annual Tons of Trucks event at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.
The Highway Patrol planned the event in an effort to bring the community out to meet their first responders. Along with the Troopers, local fire departments and EMS crews were on site giving tours of their units and passing out information. Trooper Jordan Butler organized the event and hopes it will be a good way to build a relationship between first responders and the community.
“Basically it’s an opportunity for kids and adults to meet the public safety personnel and get up in the trucks. Turn the lights on. Turn the sirens on.”
And turn on the sirens they did. Several of the kids played with the horns and lights. While others dressed up in full firefighter gear. Many families, like Angie Carroll’s, took advantage of the opportunity and used it as a way to educate their kids on public safety.
“So they can gain knowledge about the safety of our community and what they offer. And that it’s not always just a bad thing. Just to gain knowledge on safety and how they’re here to help us.”
In addition to the first responders, there were also tow trucks and drivers on site. Trooper Butler talked about the important role they play in helping in an emergency.
“Having a good relationship with the towing companies is always a plus because they’re the ones that get out here and get the road cleared up.”
