Temporary Home For Center for Seniors
ZANESVILLE, OHIO (WHIZ) – Zanesville City Council passed an ordinance during Monday evenings meeting that allows the Muskingum County Senior Center to temporarily move into the lower level of Secrest Auditorium at no cost. It remains to be seen, though, if the senior center will in fact choose to utilize Secrest as director, Ann Combs, said that may not be the best option due to the stairs and restrooms.
Center Drive Closed to Through Traffic
ZANESVILLE, OHIO (WHIZ) – Center Drive in North Zanesville is closed to through traffic as the road is deteriorating. The road will be repaved this summer. Public Service Director, Jay Bennett, said they are looking into the possibility of rebuilding the road as the permanent solution to the problem. No word yet on who will pay for the project.
Proposed Natural Gas Pipeline
MUSKINGUM COUNTY, OHIO (WHIZ) – The Columbia Pipeline is looking to build a 126 mile natural gas pipeline through Southeastern Ohio that could supply nearly 47-hundred temporary jobs. The pipeline would span nine miles and go through 15 properties in the southern part of Muskingum County.
Gov. Kasich on Buckeye Lake Water Levels
LICKING COUNTY, OHIO (WHIZ) – Ohio Governor John Kasich is aware his plan to keep Buckeye Lake at lower than normal levels won’t be a popular decision. Senator Troy Balderson says they plan to meet with business owners around the lake to talk about the plans for the dam. It’s unknown if the state will financially assist with the economic impact.
$500,000 Grant for Muskingum County
MUSKINGUM COUNTY, OHIO (WHIZ) – State Senator Balderson also announced Monday that a $500,000 grant is headed to Muskingum County. It will be used to provide upgrades to six county incorporated in Zanesville. Balderson said the money will be used for upgrades to eight existing buildings and the construction of six new units to provide permanent supportive housing and required mental health services in this area.
