Tournament Basketball Returning to Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Gus Macker 3-on-3 street-ball tournament reached out to a local organizer looking to add Zanesville as a venue for their 2027 touring schedule.
Efforts were made 3-years-ago to bring the tour to Zanesville but legal and logistical requirements proved to be insurmountable. Event Lead Organizer and Local Therapist Dominique Proctor explained how improved foresight and persistent communication is paving the way toward bringing dreams into reality.
“Last night, when we had… we had 11 committee members present and we had Gus Macker actually on Zoom. So we collabbed together and we discussed that it’s going to be a consensus that it will be held at OUZ and Zane State. They were also present, they’re a part of my committee as well. So they agreed to have it there. So the location is going to be set there. The other thing that I wasn’t expecting is that we all came to agreement that they should come next week. To come do a site review,” Proctor said.
Event requirements stipulate the presence of a medical tent, suitable sanitation, additional security, adequate staffing and officiating for approximately 20 outdoor-courts, along with financial transparency, which were all discussed during last night’s meeting.
“I was here,” Proctor said. “Todd Ware who is the president of the Gant was here, Mike King, one of our city council members was here, the Dean of OUZ was here, a representative from Zane State was here, Orthopedic Associates was here. Brian Wagner from the Muskingum County Community Foundation was present as well. Including Scott, Dan Mitchell, who’s a part of Gus Macker, and Mike Fuller. So we had about 13 or 14 people.”
Proctor anticipates monthly committee meetings from here on out that will address fund raising, budgeting, coordinating a plan of action, as well as accumulating sponsorships and volunteers.
