Trade in Candy for Cash and Support Troops

A Zanesville dentist is offering a sweet deal to trick-or-treaters.

Hawkins Complete Dental Service is paying one dollar per pound of candy brought into the office.  Dr. Charles Hawkins said the buyback program encourages kids to eat fewer treats and save up some cash.

"It helps prevent cavities, and we usually give the kids a toothbrush when they come here," said Hawkins.

Hawkins said it’s not all about healthy smiles – his office partners with Operation Gratitude to spread those smiles overseas.  All of the collected candy is shipped to men and women serving our country.

"It has been amazing," said Hawkins.  "The troops actually sent us thank you cards, and sometimes the kids who bring the candy send post cards with it.  It’s really something and a lot of fun for us."

Candy will be accepted until November 3rd.  For a complete list of participating dentists, you can visit www.halloweencandybuyback.com.
