Transitions Incorporated open house

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Transitions Incorporated had an open house to show their facility as a way to better serve those affected by domestic abuse.
Transitions offers safe housing to those who need a safe place to live after escaping from domestic abuse. Executive Director of Transitions Mitzi Shook said the exposure will help Transitions, the organization needs to be less dependent of grants.
“We are putting out the call for some of our community supports to supporters us monetarily through the year, every year,” said Mitzi Shook. “We serve three counties. We housed to 22 people. We’re most of the time full. I just think since (Transitions) has been here since 1979 people know where we are… I think people are more helpful and they’re going to watch out for us more if they know what we’re about and what is happening.
Shook said this house is a necessity as a shelter and a 24/7 crisis hot line. She said safety of the occupants and the staff will still be the top priority even though Transitions has gone public.
“More people are going to be watching our door and if there is something that doesn’t look right at our location they’ll probably call it in,” said Mitzi Shook. “We’re just a couple minutes from the police department. We’ve taken security measures. We still have rules and regulations for our residents to keep them and us safe.”
