Tressel Coming to Zanesville

Zane State has scored the presence of a former Buckeye football coach.

Jim Tressel is now the president at Youngstown State University, and he will be delivering the commencement speech at Zane State on May 9. College President, Dr. Paul Brown, said having Tressel come is very exciting.

“We’re really excited about him being here first of all,” Brown said. “We’re honored that he’s willing to do this for us, but anybody that knows Jim Tressel knows that he’s been successful all his life because he really relates well to the younger generation.”

Dr. Brown said the two schools are working on a growing collaboration. A team from Zane State recently went to YSU to work with the university’s energy program. Now, Brown says Tressel wanted an opportunity to tour Zane State.

“He felt that this was a good opportunity for him to come down and not only talk to our students but to also visit our campus,” Brown said.

But still, Brown said when it comes down to commencement, it’s all about the students and celebrating their success. There are no more tickets available for graduation, but it will be streamed live on Zane State’s website beginning at 10 a.m.
