Trucker Lucky To Be Alive After Accident

The Highway Patrol says a truck driver is lucky to be alive today after a spectacular crash Monday night. Troopers say it happened on I-70 westbound just after 11:30 three miles from the Old Washington Exit in Guernsey County. Investigators say 40-year-old Jose Briones of Eagle Pass Texas was driving his semi tractor trailer west when he drifted off the road and hit a bridge barrier. The Highway patrol says the truck overturned and spilled four aluminum rolls. The driver – who suffered a broken leg – was able to crawl out of the broken front window of his truck before it caught on fire. Troopers cited Briones with assured clear distance and not wearing a seat belt. One lane of I-70 westbound will remain closed while the clean-up is underway.
