ZANESVILLE, Ohio-  Trulight Ministries is having its second Night in a Box to bring awareness of homeless people in the area.

Executive Director at Trulight Ministries, Ed Swartz, said Night in a Box is exactly what it sounds like, people spend a night living and sleeping in a box. This is done so people can see first hand what the homeless populations go through on a nightly basis. The event also raises money for the ministry.

“Anyone who is interested in coming and sleeping in a box can get sponsors,” said Swartz. “People pay (sponsor) for other people to sleep out in a box (for the night). That money will go into our ministry. Part of it would be for our homeless outreach.”

The rest of the money will go towards building improvements for a day center for the homeless.

“It would be equipped with showers and laundry facilities,” said Swartz. “People can come in and try and clean themselves up. Make them feel a little better about themselves. We would provide showers and razors. There has been a lot of people in the community that are concerned that it will be a place for homeless to hang out. It’s not our intent. It will be a place that will have programs to teach life skills.”

The night in a box starts at 7 pm on September 1st and will go into the next morning. Swartz said the event already has more people interested in participating and donating than last years event. For more information, you can contact Edward Swartz / Executive Director at 740-704-8531.
