Two ways to Benefit Operation Feed

Operation Feed has multiple events this week to raise money and collect food donations for the Muskingum County Hunger Network

The events this week include the annual Cupcake War and A fill the bag event. Executive Director of Christ’s Table, Keely Warden, said the cupcake war Thursday gives people an opportunity to see some crafty cupcakes and even get a taste of them. The event starts at 11:00 a.m. at the Department of Children’s Services on East Pike.

"Everybody has to eat lunch, and that’s kind of the whole consensus of the thing is to encourage people to give one lunch away," Warden said. "You normally pay $6 for lunch, so come out and buy your lunch and help somebody else have a lunch next week."

Warden said the hunger network has received many donations through  Operation Feed this year, but that it is not over yet.

"It’s going pretty good," she said about the annual campaign. "Letter Carrier Day went really well. They were pretty close to where they were last year. The monetary donations are coming in. We’re almost to what I have heard, close to $10,000 this year. But if you take that $10,000 and you divide it between the pantries and hot meal programs, that’s not a lot of money to get them through the year."

Warden said nearly a million meals were provided through Operation Feed last year. She added that as the campaign comes to an end this year, she hopes to top last year’s number.
