United Way of MPM Looks Ahead to Tax Season
ZANESVILLE, OH – The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties is hard at work getting ready for tax season.
Every year the United Way hosts a free Tax Clinic and they’re looking for volunteers to help prepare tax information as well as greeters.
Katie Grubbs, the Community Impact Coordinator, said they host the free clinics to help those who may be struggling get all of their tax return.
“We host it so we can provide free tax assistance to community members that, without it, would maybe have to pay a fee or maybe they couldn’t even afford it,” Grubbs said. “It’s a really good way for people to get 100% of their return and utilize it in their budget.”
The United Way provides training and certification courses for those looking to volunteer as a tax preparer.
Melissa Lynn, the Tax Clinic Coordinator, said this year they are accepting high school students as volunteers.
She also explained why students should try to get involved with this year’s Tax Clinic.
“Volunteering is a good opportunity for anybody to help out somebody but also we like to focus on recruiting student volunteers too,” Lynn said. “So students can earn those credits, those volunteer credits, to use on college applications or for their classes so that is a good way to get their volunteer hours in.”
