ZANESVILLE, OH – The United Way of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan Counties recently received a grant.

The United Way of MPM partnered up with 6 other United Way’s to help secure the $1.8 Million grant from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. Of that $1.8 Million the United Way of MPM will receive $144,000.

Katie Grubbs, the Community Impact Coordinator with the United Way, detailed some of the things they plan to use the grant money for.

“We have 3 different initiatives,” Grubbs said. “The 1st initiative is to partner with the local Imagination Libraries in each county so every child 0 to 5 years old can receive books each month. Our second initiative is to partner with at least 7 school districts to provide school supplies. Finally the third initiative is the hiring of a Financial Stability Intern.”

Grubbs said the Financial Stability Intern will work with households in Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan Counties to make sure residents are receiving short-term housing and utility assistance. She also said this grant will be a big help to the United Way.

“This grant means we are continuing our goals,” Grubbs said. “That all 3 Counties’ health, financial stability and education continue to grow and be strengthened.”

Grubbs said the United Way is very excited for this grant because they have been talking about implementing these new initiatives for the last few months.
