Update: Nashport Storm Damage Caused by Downburst
Strong thunderstorms that moved through Licking and Muskingum Counties Monday left extensive damage in parts of the area.
One of the worst hit areas was Pleasant Valley Road in Nashport, where strong winds from 70-75 miles per hour whipped through and brought down trees and knocked out power for much of the evening. American Electric Power reported early Tuesday that power has been restored to all customers, but the road off of State Route 146 in Nashport is currently closed, as the Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency assesses the damage.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado did not touch down in the area, but that a downburst of winds can sometimes cause more damage than a weak tornado. Volunteers are currently working to clear the roads for safe travel.
