Update: ODOT Says 215 Plow Drivers Ready for Snow and Ice

Winter1

Between midnight and 2 AM Monday, ODOT crews will be on the clock throughout Central Ohio ready to battle a variety of winter conditions headed our way. A combination of freezing rain, snow and ice are all in the forecast which could make the Monday morning commute treacherous.

A total of 215 snow plow drivers will be plowing and salting interstates, state and US routes, ramps and bridges in 15 counties. Those counties include Coshocton, Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Guernsey, Knox, Licking, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Muskingum, Perry, Pickaway and Union counties.

The greatest concern is not necessarily accumulation or type of precipitation. It’s the probability that whatever we receive will freeze on contact, and create icy conditions. The subsurface under many of our roads and bridges is frozen due to the bitterly cold conditions the last two weeks.

For drivers, here’s some advice.

– Slow Down
– Allow extra time for your commute
– Give yourself plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Roads and bridges that appear ‘wet’ could actually be covered in black ice.
