UPDATE: Serious Accident Under Investigation

A two vehicle accident seriously injured a three year old child early this morning on I-70 in Muskingum County.
Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said it happened just before 5:30 near the Adamsville Road Exit and backed up traffic for miles. Lutz explained what they believed happened.

"The accident was in the–basically eastbound lanes at the 93 Adamsville off ramp from the interstate. Had two vehicles that were involved. We believe at this point that a pickup truck that was traveling eastbound crossed the median and struck a minivan."

Lutz says all of the occupants from both of the vehicles were transported to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. The child was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with severe trauma. No word yet on their names or conditions.

"We did take both vehicles as evidence and once we get all the measurements done and get all the reconstruction done on it, then we’ll make the determination if we can figure out what the cause was or whether there’ll be a citation issued or not."

The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with traffic. Genesis Community Ambulance, Falls Township and Washington Township EMS all responded to the scene. Lutz says the accident remains under investigation.
