Vehicle in Creek, One Person Trapped

One person was trapped inside a vehicle this evening, after their pickup truck went off an embankment, and landed upside-down in a creek.

It happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Coal Run Road in Muskingum County.

"They failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the west side of the roadway." explained Trooper Adam McKenzie. "[They] overcorrected, then went back off the left side of the roadway, where it overturned into a creek bed and came to rest on its top in the bottom of the creek."

The Highway Patrol identifies the driver as John Krouskouph of Zanesville and his passenger Dlandrius Krouskoupf of Adamsville.

Troopers and fire officials say the water in the creek wasn’t high enough to be a problem during the rescue. The passenger was able to be easily rescued, but emergency personnel had to use the jaws of life to rescue the driver.

Washington Township Fire Chief Gene Hanning says it only took about ten minutes to remove the trapped man from the vehicle, but Hanning says to him, it felt like hours.

McKenzie says while in route to a scene like this, quick response is key, as well as quick extrication.

"They’re both in relatively stable condition, both transported to Good Samaritan hospital for treatment." said McKenzie.

McKenzie says he is unsure whether the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

He says a citation will be issued upon further investigation.
