Veterans are invited to the upcoming annual Veterans Picnic
Zanesville, OH- This Friday, veterans from across the area are invited to the American Legion on Third Street for an afternoon of food and appreciation.
The picnic starts at noon Friday and is hosted by the Muskingum Chapter of the Daughters of The American Revolution and the Veterans Appreciation Foundation. All veterans are welcome and can bring one guest. Organizers will serve hamburgers, cheeseburgers, homemade side dishes, watermelon, and cookies.
“I look forward to seeing the veterans having a good time together, they often times don’t know very many people, but they always enjoy sitting and talking, eating and sharing their service, you usually hear them saying my ‘what branch are you in?’, or they might have it on their hat or something,” said Daughters of The American Revolution Member, Ellen Shaw.
Organizers say the event is a way to thank veterans for their service while giving them a place to spend time with others who have shared similar experiences.
“It’s important for them to know that we honor what they have done for our country, and us,” said Shaw.
The Daughters of the American Revolution are also looking for new members. Anyone who can trace their family back to someone who was involved with The American Revolution may be eligible to join, and the chapter can help with the research.
