Veterans Service Commission Annual Budget

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – As 2019 approaches a close, local organizations
are receiving proposed budgets for 2020 from the Muskingum County
Commissioners. Don McKee, Director of the Muskingum County Veterans
Service Commission, says the organization is looking forward to
assisting area veterans in the year ahead as no major changes were
made to their budget.
“No big changes at
all—and they’ve allowed us plenty of funds to last through the
year. And, we’re proud to say that we’ve never ran out of
money…never. So, they’ve been very generous.”
The Veterans Service
Commission transports veterans to and from medical appointments; in
addition to other programs.
“We have a
financial aid program. It’s designed for indigent veterans and
their families—everybody gets up against it once in a while. And,
we take applications as needed for emergencies—sort of a temporary
financial aid program until a permanent source of income is explored
and hopefully achieved. We file claims through the federal government
for veterans compensation benefits.”
The Veterans Service
Commission Board has five seats—representing the five branches of
the military.
