Victim Speaks Out

A Zanesville man is speaking out after his house was shot at last weekend.

Christopher L. Smith, 24, of Zanesville was arrested in connection to a shooting at a home on Ridge Avenue. Smith was indicted Wednesday on one count of discharging a firearm into a habitat with a gun specification and one count of tampering with evidence. If convicted on both charges, Smith could face up to 16 years in prison.

Owner of the home, Fillipa Holbert, believes the punishment isn’t strong enough, especially because his children and their friends were in the room where shots were fired. One child inside the home was grazed beneath his nose by a bullet. Police say Smith used an assault rifle during the attack.

Holbert says he did nothing to deserve being shot at, he was simply trying to protect the neighborhood children who were being harassed by two men outside of the Tiny Tap bar.

19 bullet holes were discovered inside Holbert’s home. He says he doesn’t know what he would’ve done if one of his children were severely injured, or even worse, killed.

Smith is currently being held in the Muskingum County Jail.
