Vigil Held for Former Zanesville Student

Several Zanesville students, staff and members of the community gathered together tonight to remember a former student.

Zanesville High School hosted a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Aaron Brocklehurst tonight in front of the school’s flag. Brocklehurst passed away on Thanksgiving Day this year after a battle with cancer. This gathering was organized by a former Zanesville High School student, Dakota Lickliter, who was also a classmate of Brocklehurst. She told us she feels the family deserves the support of the community.

“I felt like his family didn’t get the support that they needed, and that is why I decided to go about it. I felt like his family, deserves the same support that other students have gotten,” said Lickliter.

While forming a circle, everyone in attendance held a lit candle and had the opportunity to say a few words of their most cherished memories. There were also yellow ribbons handed out by Brocklehurst’s father that everyone pinned to their clothing during the ceremony.

“To me, it means a lot because it’s nice to know that people do actually care. I think that his family needs the support,” said Lickliter.

The vigil was concluded with a moment of silence.
