Village of New Concord host Veterans Day celebration

NEW CONCORD, Ohio- The Village of New Concord said a big “thank you for your service” to area veterans.
The celebration included recognition of service members, readings of patriotic poetry, songs and music.
“It’s very important to me because my parents and grandparents were immigrants,” Jerry Gibson said. “They were very loyal to the United States, Civil War, WWI,WWII, and always have been involved in patriotic things of our nation.”
“I just think that veterans have given their all and they deserve to be honored by everyone,” Robert Owens Jones said.
Church bells rang at 11 a.m. in honor of Veterans Day. It’s a day of thanks and remembrance.
“It’s just very important that we honor our veterans,” George St.Clair said. “I have a brother that served in the navy. I lost a cousin in the Korean War. It always meant a lot to honor the veterans.”
“I have many family members who have served,” Charlotte Colley said. “My husband’s father served and actually passed away not too long ago. We’d love to honor the veterans who have served in the past, who are no longer here, and who are currently serving.”
“It’s an important thing to a remember our history,” Carol Jones said. “At this time of an election. Especially, we’re all looking forward to good things and hoping that we can show respect for the country and to one another.”
Colley said the committee was formed to revive Veterans day activities with a celebration.
