ZANESVILLE, Ohio - One man is walking across the country with a giant cross to promote peace.

James Anania of Los Angeles began his journey earlier this year on Father’s Day. He told us he flew out to Washington D.C on June 19th and is making his way back out to Los Angeles by foot. Anania said the only way to bring change is to stand up and do something about it.

“You realize that as long as you keep on shrugging your shoulders and assuming that it’s somebody’s else’s problem the problem keeps getting worst and worst. I’m afraid it’s getting to the point where your never going to be able to have your own voice before that becomes a crime itself. I figured, before politically things get any rougher I figure you speak up for what you think is right” said James Anania.

Ananio said he aims to walk 20 miles per day with the hopes to make it back to Los Angeles within five months. He said the reason he decided to walk with a cross was to send a message of love and sacrifice.

“I am Christian but, as soon as you start labeling things that’s where the division comes in. For me the cross is a symbol of love and sacrifice, whether you believe in Jesus or not. The idea is that, that person was noble enough to sacrifice himself for the better good of everybody else,” said Anania.

Anania said 99 percent of the people he has came in contact with on his journey has been supportive of his movement.
