Walter Blattner

Walter “Walt” Blattner passed away peacefully June 1, 2024 at Astoria Place of Cambridge with his family near him.
He was born September 18, 1933 to Jacob and Luella (Kirkman) Blattner in Cambridge OH.
Walt was a 1951 graduate of Cambridge High School. He worked as a tool and die maker for RCA and later NCR.
In the 1970s, he started Babe Ruth and Little League baseball in Lore City and later girls’ softball in Kipling. He played fast pitch softball and basketball for RCA, NCR, and the VFW. From 1981 until 1991, he coached both girls’ and women’s teams in the Cambridge Softball League. His teams won many trophies – a sign of his success as a coach.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers; four sisters; and a grandson, Shane DeLucas.
Walt is survived by his wife, Shirley (Williams) Blattner, whom he married September 24, 1954 at the Lore City United Methodist Church; three daughters, Vicki and Joe DeLucas, Kristi and Bobby Bickford, and Tami and Dale McCulley; his grandchildren, Adessa and Ryan Eskridge, Kyle and Elizabeth Bickford, Troy and Brandi McCulley, Drew McCulley, Shelly (Erica Toki) DeLucas; his great-grandchildren, Elliott Rose and Jacob Eskridge, Rhett Bickford, Peyton and Alexis Rose McCulley, Owen and Dawsen McCulley; a special niece, Joyce Cale and family: David Gatrell, Jodi and Cade Saling, Tiffany Ansberry, and Bob and Candy Reardon.
Walt was an avid walker and runner at Northwood Cemetery for over forty years. Walt’s family and Black-Epperson Funeral Home will take him on his last lap around Northwood Cemetery, where he has a tree planted in his memory.
Walt will then be taken to Senecaville Cemetery to his final resting place, where graveside services will be held on Friday (June 7, 2024) at 12 p.m. with Rev. Randolph White officiating – anyone wishing to attend is very welcome. Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, is handling arrangements.
