Warm Winter Weather Brings Residents Inside to Play

As the unusually warm winter weather resides in south-east Ohio members of the community are finding alternatives to outdoor activities.
Lou & Gib Reese Ice Arena, located in Newark Ohio is seeing an increase in people at their rink this year due to the weather. General Manager, Gary Baldwin said the weather has a positive impact on their rink.
“Well basically it’s an alternative of going skiing and being outside and playing in the snow. Most children who are athletic and want something they will get skies or the bibs or something to go skiing. Well, when there’s no snow they come ice skating and try their new bibs out and have fun like that in the rink,” said Baldwin.
Baldwin said he has been at Lou & Gib Reese Ice Arena for 6 years and he enjoys seeing people spending time with their families.
“That is what it’s all about, it’s just wonderful. To see all the people and all the families come together. Most of the time it is families and that makes me real happy to see the parents are with their children and the parents are having a good time,” said Baldwin.
If you decide to go the ice arena, Baldwin said the key to successfully skating is having the proper sized skates.
