Wayne A. Barrett (February 25, 1934 – May 16, 2012)

, 78 of Zanesville died 1:05 AM Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at residence following a long illness.
He was born February 25, 1934 in Zanesville the son of William Wayne Barrett and Beatrice (Norris) Mattey.
Wayne was a dedicated, active and faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He was very active in music ministry and enjoyed the time he devoted to the church. He loved music and enjoyed singing. He was a member of Knights of Columbus council #505. Wayne sang for many weddings throughout the area and was a 33 year member of the Y City Barber Shoppe Singers. He was a past president of the Muskingum County Jeffersonian Democratic Club and he was a former member and 17 year director of the St. Thomas Church Choir. He was a member of the Zanesville Community Theater. He retired as a supervisor from Western Electric following 30 years of service. Following his retirement he was a courier for Century National Bank for 25 years. Wayne will be remembered for being a devout Christian, his kind peaceful manner, the way he lived his life and love for his savior. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Wayne never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patty (Jones) Barrett whom he married May 16th, 1953; one son: John (Elaine Soma) Barrett of Land of Lakes, FL; two daughters: Cathy Jackson and Patricia “Terrie†(Robert) Hartmeyer both of Zanesville; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister: Georgiana “Nickie†(Fred) Barwick of Pickerington and one half brother: Kenny (Bev) Barrett of Newark and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by the father who raised him George “Joe†Mattey, two sons: Jeff Barrett and James Barrett; two daughters: Carol Anne Barrett and Infant Georgia Lee and one sister and brother-in-law: Joyce & Don Lynch.
Friends may call Friday May 18th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM with Christian Vigil at 7:45pm at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 North Fifth Street with a Dominican Fathers as celebrant. Burial will follow at a later date in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
