Weeding Away Winter
Weeding and planting in your own yard maybe months away, but Lisa Baker at Timber Run Gardens just started to get her hands dirty.
"Right now we are getting ready for spring. We are planting geraniums, hydrangeas; we have bulbs that are in a cooler" said Green House Worker, Lisa Baker.
Punxsutawney Phil says these winter months maybe ending soon and the first signs of spring are right through the green house door. Tiny buds are in a controlled green house. To make planting early more cost effective smaller green houses are filled first.
" We start out planting the small what we call liners in different sizes, from hanging baskets to 4 inch pots" said Baker.
Once ready the plants will be shipped to resale shops and landscape centers. By this time, the plants will change drastically.
"These geraniums will be tall and we have many colors to chose from. The hydrangeas, we have 4 or 5 colors and they will be like small shrubs. They will be this big around" said Baker.
Baker loves her job. It gets her out of the house in winter and today the sun is shining. The plants make her think spring.
"The texture the smell the look of things the colors that we have to chose some. It is just fantastic" tells Baker.
Some plants are being to sprout making use feel Phil and Chuck were right.
