Week Long Stock the Trailer Campaign Kick Off

ZANESVILLE, OH – Those who attended the Muskingum County Fair today had the chance to get in for free while helping the areas hungry.

The Stock the Trailer campaign kicked off today with admission to the Fair being the price of 4 cans of food from 7AM to 1PM.

All of the food collected from this week-long campaign will be heading to Christ’s Table.

Keely Warden, the Executive Director of Christ’s Table, says they almost filled the truck today but they have a bigger goal in mind.

“By the end of the week we want to fill this trailer too.” Warden said. “I’ve also offered if you want to drop it off at Christ’s Table, if you’re not coming to the fair, but feel like you want to dive some food. Drop it off at Christ’s Table and make sure you say it’s for Fair Day so we can count it with that because these kids won 1st last year, which was almost 60,000 pounds of food and we want to do it again.”

Junior Fair Board members as well as other volunteers were hard at work collecting food at the gates and then unloading it into the truck.

Jamie McConnell, an Educator in 4 H Youth Development, says this is an amazing experience for her Junior Fair Board Members because it ties back into a core 4 H value.

“One of the things we teach in 4 H is looking out for other people in your community and Fair is very busy for the kids that are here in 4 H.” McConnell said. “But, they took time this morning when they’ve got livestock shows later this evening, to be out here to collect for Christ’s Table and I just think that speaks to the character of the young people and the volunteers.”

The Junior Fair Board will be taking food donations for the rest of Fair week.

You can drop your donations off at either the Junior Fair office or the trailer next to the horse barn.
