Former Deputy Under Investigation

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz executed a search warrant late Wednesday night at a home in the 2000 block of Stanway Road stemming from a complaint in reference to child pornography.

During the search, officers found explosives, notified the bomb squad and determined the best option was to detonate the blasting caps at the scene. Later, Lutz announced former Muskingum County Sheriff’s Deputy Timothy Hartmeyer as the suspect and that he had been served a warrant and arrested in Mobile, Alabama.

Zanesville Police say they have only responded to routine calls involving the Police Athletic League, which Hartmeyer is president.

 

Family Displaced After South Zanesville House Fire.

Assistant Fire Chief Doug Hobson declared a home located on the 100 block of Elmore Street a complete loss caused due to a fire starting in the laundry room by a clothes dryer.

Three adults and six children, who were in the home at the time of the fire escaped safely, but lost everything due to fire, smoke and water damage.

Displaced resident, Donald Pratt says he’s grateful to individual community members as well as the American Red Cross, who have been helping him and his family get through this difficult time.

“It sucks, it does. We lost everything. All my clothes are in there. I lost everything,” Pratt said.

 

Water Service Disruptions

The North Terrace Church of Christ closed Monday due to a water main break and residents living near the intersection of Harris Road and Sharon Avenue experienced water issues Wednesday when city crew workers completed a nearby water valve maintenance.

 

West Virginia Bank Robber Captured

33-Year-old Terrel Coy Davis sits in the Muskingum County Jail after being captured Tuesday by the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department in the South Zanesville Dollar General and Radio Shack parking lot.

Davis was wanted in connection with the robbery of First Sentry Bank in Barboursville, West Virginia.

 

Zane State Announces Job Cuts

Zane State College announced Tuesday it will be cutting some jobs on campus. “In response to outside factors, the college will adjust its workforce in the coming months to position itself to serve students, partners and communities in the best manner possible. This will involve eliminating a small number of jobs that are still being determined.”

Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. James Kemper says the job cuts will enable Zane State to become a staple in Zanesville and surrounding communities for decades to come.

 

National Vietnam Veterans Day

Thursday, March 29, marks National Vietnam Veterans Day and the public is invited to the Muskingum County Courthouse Esplanade at 9 a.m. to commemorate the day with the Muskingum Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.

The itinerary includes: a salute to the flag, the national anthem, a prayer, and a few brief remarks by some local dignitaries to honor our Vietnam Veterans. After the ceremonies, attendees are invited to gather at the American Legion Post 29 for coffee, juice, doughnuts and an opportunity to visit.

 

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

Saturday, March 31, holds two opportunities to have breakfast with the Easter Bunny in the greenhouse at Vista View Golf Course. The first session begins at 8:30 and the second starts at 10:30.

$12 buys silver dollar pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, fruit and a beverage. Additionally, kids get a cookie, a make and take craft, and get their picture taken with Hoppy the Easter Bunny.
