West M to eliminate “pay to participate” fees for student-athletes

The West Muskingum school board unanimously voted to eliminate “pay to participate” fees for student-athletes, effective in the 2016-17 school year.

“It’s a positive step by our board,” West Muskingum High School Principal Ray Peyton said, adding that he’s “thankful and grateful” for the ruling.

“It’s great for the kids. coaches and parents,” athletic director Aaron Bates said.

The fees have been a requirement for all West Muskingum student-athletes since the 2008-09 school year.
