ZANESVILLE, Ohio – What better way to keep the America 250 celebrations going than with our annual Military Salute tradition?

WHIZ’s first Military Salute goes to Nicole Schooley of Zanesville. She served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman from 2016 to 2021. She originally trained in San Antonio, Texas, before being stationed further West.

“…and I was stationed in San Diego, California. I worked at Balboa Hospital in the CCU, focusing on mostly cardiac care. And I did a mission on the U.S.N.S. Mercy for COVID relief, working in the ICU,” Schooley said. “I feel like it’s a great thing the community is doing in just showing respect to those who have served and who are currently serving, and just a very nice thing to do.”

Schooley is now a registered nurse and a new mom. Her Military Salute comes with a locally made American flag made by Annin Flagmakers in Coshocton. The flag was presented and sponsored by Winspex Limited, which provides home inspection and radon services.

“I think for me, it’s really just about gratitude. I think we get to go about our everyday lives because men and women have been willing to serve and sacrifice for our country. So I think being able to present this flag to a veteran is very much just a small way that our business can say thank you,” said Logan Wisecarver, owner of Winspex Limited. “Fortunately, I know Nicci outside of this event so it does mean a little bit more to me to be able to give her a flag.”

WHIZ’s Annual Military Salute lets participating businesses purchase a locally made flag and present it to a local veteran or family member in recognition of their service to our country. We here at WHIZ thank Nicole Schooley for her service.
