Long-time beloved Zanesville resident Wilfredo “Fred” Belen, born in San Juan, Puerto

Rico passed away suddenly on Friday, August 9, 2024. Fred is survived by his wife of

47 years, Betsey, also of Zanesville; son, Kory Young (Jami Brunk) of Hebron, Ohio;

and granddaughter, Abigail Young of East Fultonham, Ohio.

Fred was preceded in death by his father, Victor; mother, Alicia; and brother, Victor

Manuel Belen.

Fred was a sergeant in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and served as a field

communications operator. In civilian life, Fred was an electrical engineer, a bass guitar

teacher, and a 40-year Professional Tennis Registry instructor. He coached tennis at

Rosecrans High School and Ohio University Zanesville. He was also a tennis

professional at both the Zanesville Country Club and the Lancaster Country Club.

Fred was an avid musician with a small recording studio in his home. He played bass

guitar for numerous Christian worship and outreach bands, and at New Hope Full

Gospel Church for 34 years.

Friends and family may call from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024, at New Hope Full Gospel

Church, 3550 East Pike, Zanesville, OH. 43701, with additional calling hours to be held from 10:00 a.m.

until time of services at 12:00 noon, Friday, August, 16, 2024, at THE BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME

with pastors Joe and Jason Divencenzo officiating. Fred will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park

Cemetery with full Military Honors accorded to him by the United States Marine Corps in conjunction

with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
