William “Bill” Casner

Casner

William “Bill” P. Casner was greeted in heaven on October 22, 2025, by his beloved wife, Mary Jo Meinrad; his mother, Betty Lou Brown; father, Earl William Casner; stepmother, Betty Casner; sister, Anne Smith; sister-in-law, Cathy Brady; and the loved ones who passed before him.

He leaves behind his daughters, Erin (Nick) DeCarlo and Bridget (Scot) Schwertman; grandchildren, Colton Beatty, Olivia and Dean Schwertman, and Delaney DeCarlo; sisters, Mary (Brian) Buzby and Kathy (Lee) Hetrick; along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.

Born and raised in Zanesville, Ohio, Bill was immensely proud of his roots. His love for Ohio University and Athens ran almost as deep as his passion for obscure music, model trains, and cats.

A faithful viewer of The Weather Channel, Bill could predict the chance of rain with more accuracy than most meteorologists—a talent that served him well in his dream retirement job at the Westchester and Pinehill Golf Courses, where he was truly in his happy place.

When he wasn’t on the golf course, Bill could be found cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Penguins. Known for his wit and wealth of knowledge, he was who you wanted as your “phone-a-friend”—though you had to be patient, as every answer came with a few detours before the (always correct) conclusion.

For the past 30 years, Bill called Canal Winchester home. He was a friend to all and deeply valued the relationships he built with his neighbors, who affectionately knew him as “sabbatical.”

Bill spent the majority of his career putting his gift for conversation and persuasion to work as an agency auditor for Alliance Data Systems before retiring from United Collection Bureau in 2016.

Bill—you didn’t have to step into our lives, but you did. From that moment on, you chose us. You chose to love, guide, and show up—not out of obligation, but out of genuine care and heart.

You showed us what it means to lead with kindness, and to love without conditions. Thank you for being the Dad, Papa Bill, Brother and friend we all needed. Your presence will live on in the stories we tell and the memories we hold close.

“The best families are the ones we choose, and the ones who choose us.”

Friends and family are invited to attend Bill’s Celebration of Life on Saturday November 22, 2025, from 12-3 PM at Roosters in Pickerington, OH (1500 Stonecreek Dr. S, Pickerington, OH 43147). All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honor of Bill’s memory to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/donate.html). Thank you in advance for your generosity.
