“Win. The. Battle.” Sheridan Ready to Reclaim Big School Softball Title

THORNVILLE, OH

There are quite a few expectations for Sheridan heading into the 2025 season, with one of the most talented rosters in all of the MVL. With five seniors stepping up for the Lady Generals, the team simply cannot wait until the first pitch of the season.

“We don’t really discuss as far as winning or competing for MVL titles, because we know we are expected to compete for titles” says manager Mark Paxton. “So we kind of just day by day, try to get better each day, and hopefully we’re still right there at the end of the season, and looking to win some titles.”

After finishing second in the big school division in 2024, Sheridan is eyeing an MVL title in 2025 by doing one simple thing: “W. T. B.”

“Win the battle, and that’s the big thing, whatever that looks like for you, or you as a person, like, we win it, we win it together, and as a team, that’s what I’m really excited about for my senior year” says senior Cora Hall.

Fellow senior Kayleigh Watkins adds, “Just go out there and do what you can to win the battle, and make it farther for us.”

“It’s more of a…there are going to be errors, there are going to be things that don’t go right. You have to collect yourself, pull yourself back up, and then go out, finish the battle and win the game” per senior Hailey Robinson.

But what keeps Sheridan so strong, spring in and spring out each year to meet those high expectations?

Senior Payton Powell says, “I think we just have our standards for ourselves, which is what keeps us with the expectations of others, which then allows us to keep pushing ourselves, even if we kind of slack off a bit with trying to have fun. But definitely our self determination is what keeps us winning.”

“We do have big goals, we really want to go far. We want to prove ourselves a lot. And it really is a big deal for us to get that expectation” claims senior Lizzie Woods.

The Lady Generals will look to meet those expectations with a first pitch set for Monday at 5 PM against Kenton Ridge.
