Winterizing Your Home

If you notice that your heating or electric bill tends to rise during the colder months, you may want to winterize your home.
Prepping your home for the winter could seem a little difficult as you try to protect your pipes and conserve your heat. That is why we spoke to Kevin Wiseman, the Hardware Supervisor at Home Depot for tips on how you can keep your heating bill down.
“This is a patio door kit, you basically pull that out, stretch it across your patio door and heat that up so that it seals to the surrounding areas. It keeps any air flow from coming in or out. You also have door protectors that are for the bottoms which are sitting over here, the draft protect. You put those right on the bottom door that was the door will still open but, it allows it to keep the air out and keep things from going in and out to keep the cold air away and the warm air in,” said Wiseman.
Wiseman said some of the changes that you are make now could also help lower your cooling bill in the summer.
“Anything you can do to cut down drafts, it’s same thing with cold air getting in. Summer time the hot air gets in and all of a sudden we think lets boast our air conditioner up, the same idea applies. The door drafts stops, like I was saying there one of the things you put them on year around because, it keeps the cold air out but, guess what it keeps the hot air out,” said Wiseman.
