Wired to Work

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – With the popularity of manufacturing jobs making a comeback, the need for skilled labor to fill those positions is in demand.
Mid-East Career and Technology Centers hosted a skilled trades career fair, titled Wired to Work, that provided a networking opportunity between local manufacturers, trade educators and students.
“The main goal of today is to let the students know what opportunities are out here in our community. You know there is a lot of really high pay, high demand jobs right here in their back yard and we just want to make sure that they’re aware of the opportunity,” Mid-East Workforce Development Coordinator Erika Kilpatrick said.
The event invited Ohio Valley Manufacturing Alliance member businesses to visit the Zanesville campus and explain the skills they are looking for in addition to witnessing the skills that are being taught.
“The Ohio Valley Manufacturing Alliance set up this opportunity for I believe 11 employers. We’re here to get our names out for each individual company. We hope to connect with local students and let them know what is available right here at home in a variety of different options and career paths,” OVMA Member and Stewart Glapat Sales and Marketing Director Olivia Parry said.
Students were rotated in limited groups throughout the morning to be given more one-on-one time with the local manufacturing business representatives to gain more knowledge of the opportunities their chosen career field has to offer.
