Witnessing The Macker Experience

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Steps toward bringing a quality, tournament style basketball show back to Zanesville were taken this past the weekend.
Zanesville Gus Macker Tournament Executive Chairman Dominique Proctor participated in the Chillicothe tournament and got to experience many of the intricacies that make the entire operation run smoothly.
“I was volunteering as a score keeper,” Proctor said. “And so during that, I kind of learned what the scorekeeping job title was. You know I kept track of the fouls, had the players sign using their bracelets. But outside of that, I looked around and walked around during breaks and asked the different sections like OK, how does this work?”
The efficiency and scope of operations displayed by the volunteer and hospitality tents, which organized, directed and served the volunteers left the biggest impression.
“Macker.com is their official website,” Proctor said. “You can go on there, you can see the map for their 2026 year. See all the different cities that are coming up. They also have different tabs on there that talks about like player substitution, how much their fee is for this tournament, when is the registration deadline and what are the rules and all those things. They have a pretty good, pretty plethora of everything on there for you to find out.”
Anyone interested in refereeing or scorekeeping at next summer’s Zanesville tournament can contact Proctor or Kurtus Nichols through the Gus Macker Zanesville Facebook page. Additionally, Wednesday, June 3rd only, the Zanesville Applebee’s will be donating 25 percent of their proceeds to the Gus Macker Zanesville tournament.
