Woman Helping to Feed the Homeless
After viewing a video at church about homeless people in America Joyce Spears was so moved she felt she needed to do something to help the issue. So, in August of this year she began driving around Zanesville in search of people she could assist.
" I saw one and then I’d see another and I would see someone holding a sign and I would go up to and talk to them and have food ready and give it to them " explains Spears.
At first Spears was leary of the places she was going, but she never went alone. Now, she has been able to build relationships.
"In the beginning not very good because they don’t trust anyone and it took awhile and they then would start telling me why they were out there and what caused them to be out there " said Spears.
Spears did not want to reveal where the people she helps live. She feels she is able to help between 12 – 15 people a night. She finds it hard to be at home when she knows there are people out in the cold.
It takes her 90 minutes a night to drive around Zanesville and feed the people that she doesand she does it up to 5 times a week. Her Pastor is happy to help her cause and knows Spears is the right person to be helping those in need. He says she is full of life.
"One of our mottos is enriching lives for a greater purpose and we feel everybody has a purpose" pastor Aaron Bounds
Spears feels she has found her purpose and will not stop until the issue is fixed. Though helping others she has even changed her own life.
" I feel like I have a bunch of new friends and I’ll probably always stay connected to them somehow"said Spears.
