Workplace Violence Seminar

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce hosted a workplace violence seminar.

Employees from local businesses were able to attend a panel presentation and discussion to learn how to respond to violence in the workplace as well as reporting it and learning how to prevent it. The panel included law enforcement, human resource representatives, as well as a member of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation

“So we’re talking about preparation for workplace violence, we’re also talking about so you’ve had an incident, how do you report it, what do you do at the scene, and then from the OSHA side of it how do you report it to them,” said Matz.

Matz said the number of violent incidents in the workplace has been on the rise. He said it can include incidents among employees, as well as customers or outside clients. Matz said their main goal of today’s meeting was to help employers to be prepared.

“National statistics are showing a very rapid increase in workplace violence incidents,” said Matz. “So we wanted to have our local businesses as prepared as possible.”

Matz said if Chamber member businesses have any question regarding the seminar or would like more information they can contact the chamber either by phone or visit their website.
