ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Ohio winters can lead to cabin fever but the visitors bureau is planning a spirited event that aims to lure people back to the outdoors.

Zanesville-Muskingum County Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager Jordin Harmer talked about a mid-March that aims to draw residents and visitors alike to the city of Zanesville.

“The first annual Y-Bridge Irish Dash is brand new,” Harmer said. “It is a 5K and one mile fun run that will take place on March 14th and that’s a Saturday. And it will take place on Muskingum Avenue. It will start and end on Muskingum Avenue, right in front of Muddy Misers and Weasel Boy Brewing Company. 5K’s often will draw visitors from at least 50 miles or more. It’s very common.”

Visit Zanesville has hosted many 5K events in the past but none in March. The event encourages physical activity while Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by offering an event shirt, green beverage options and a medal at the finish.

“The course is pretty straight forward,” Harmer said. “So they will go up Muskingum Avenue and downtown and then it will be a circle. And they will basically circle that twice for the 5K. So it’s a very straight forward race. We’ll have flaggers and people you know, helping you. The profits from the 5K, it will actually go back right into the CVB seasonal events fund. So that allows us to host and participate in seasonal events all throughout the year.”
