Z.A.A.P. Artist Sharon Dean

It’s time once again to introduce you to the Z.A.A.P artist of the month, and this month’s featured artist is Sharon Dean.

Dean expressed an interest in art at a young age, coloring on walls as a child. In fact, walls are still one of her favorite surfaces to paint. Growing up with a love of art, Dean continued her art education at The Ohio State University where she earned a degree in fine arts. After college, Dean started a family and put her art career on hold. However, 2014 was her comeback year, going public with her art for the very first time.

“This past year is the first year that I’ve gone public with my artwork,” stated Dean. “I’ve done a lot of work for friends and family and then after that I took it public.”

Dean’s artwork is heavily inspired by mythology, as you look at her artwork you’ll notice goddesses represented in many of her paintings. She also draws inspiration from world renowned artists like Salvador Dali and Frita Kalho. Starting off as an art admirer, she says the hardest part of being an artist is putting yourself out there.

“It’s a scary thing to put yourself out there, and once i did i was really excited that i was so well received.”

Dean says that she is really interested in mural painting, and hopes one day to paint a mural right here in Zanesville. You can check out her artwork for yourself tomorrow at the Z.A.A.P studio during the First Friday Art Walk.
