ZAAP’s Featured Artist of the Month

ZAAP’s Featured Artist of the Month, Tori Alexander, is an avid painter.

Water color painting is her specialty, but she even dabbles in a little photography and ceramic work. She captures anything in nature that sparks her interest, but what truly inspires her are the horses on her farm. She said she’s intrigued by their smell, movement and spirit.

“If I see a color that kinda pops out at me or see light filtering through the trees, sometimes that will say to me, ‘I need to have something done, can you come take my picture here,’ and so I’ll either take a photograph, or I’ll sit down with a pen and ink, or just bring out my water colors and sit and paint what it is that I see,” Alexander said.

After dedicating herself to teaching art for 30 years, Alexander continued her passion. She’s been a member of the ZAAP Art Gallery for seven years and said its been a great stepping stone in her career.

“We’re just a loose-knit group of community members, we get together once a month, we meet here at the gallery, and we have sometimes speakers come in or we do demonstrations for each other, we just discuss what it is that we do, what we enjoy doing, and we learn from each other, so it’s kind a networking organization for us,” she said.

Alexander’s work will be on display starting Friday evening during the First Friday Artwalk, from 5 until 8 at ZAAP studios on Main Street.
