Zane State College made a visit to Maysville Elementary today for their Reading is Fun Event.

Approximately 80 kindergarten classrooms were visited for story time with a reading of the children’s book “Giraffe Problems”. Each student received a book to take home with them allowing over 1,500 books to be gifted to the youth.

“Reading is very fun and enjoyable and it’s something that lets you connect with the students that you’re interacting with. It’s something that parents can do at home, which is a big reason why we send the books home with them. It’s a way to connect with your student or your child, and just really have a good time with them.” Zane State College Director of Advancement, Katlyn Porter said.

Reading at home can help students improve their skills and become accomplished readers in the classroom. The Reading is Fun event was offered in Muskingum, Guernsey, and Noble County kindergarten classrooms and was made possible with the help from The Community Bank and supporting sponsors Muskingum County Library System and Shelly and Sands.

“I love to see their faces learning what they think the book is about. We brought Monado out here today, our mascot, they always love to see him. So, it’s just a really great opportunity for us to connect with out youth here in the community.”  Porter said.

The Reading is Fun event plans on returning to classrooms again next year.
