Zanesville City School District Levy on Upcoming Ballot

ZANESVILLE, OH – A levy on the upcoming ballot hopes to continue programs in the Zanesville City School District.
The levy is a 3.2 Mill Renewal of an emergency operating levy that has been voted on every year since 1993.
Janet Cooper, a Levy Chair with Zanesville City Schools, says that this levy will not create any new taxes and is all around good for the schools.
“It will not create new taxes, it’s just very good for the sustainability of our community and its future,” Cooper said. “It will also continue to support programming at every level, from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade.”
Cooper has lived in the district for the last 21 years. She says the diversity of the school’s community comes from having unique programs for students.
“I’ve been a resident of Zanesville and Muskingum County for the last 21 years and the one thing that’s stuck out to me about Zanesville was the sense of community as well as the diversity,” Cooper said. “There’s diversity in the programs, the educators, the students, because everyone learns differently. Kids light up when they’re taught different things. This levy will support all of that.”
Cooper talked about some of the different programs that are offered starting in kindergarten. Zanesville City Schools offers a robotics program beginning in 5th grade and going until 12th. Cooper says this program teaches students interviewing skills, driving, skills and engineering work as well. Cooper also highlighted the Project Lead the Way program which helps students make a connection between school work and future careers.
Election day is only one week away on November 7.
