Zanesville Museum of Art to Present Howard Chandler Christy Exhibition

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Zanesville Museum of Art is getting ready for a once in a lifetime exhibition.
On Thursday at 5:30, the Museum will open the “Howard Chandler Christy: A Golden Age Master” exhibition to the public.
Laine Snyder, the Executive Director of the Museum, said they are thrilled to be able to display these works by Christy who was born in McConnelsville.
“We’re really excited to have this exhibition because we don’t often have an opportunity where we can see such large scale, oil paintings like Mrs. Austin behind me.” Snyder said. “We do have a large collection of Howard Chandler Christy’s works from the Tami Longaberger Collection but they’re different. It’s more ephemera, there’s prints, archival materials, these are grand oil paintings, kind of in the Old Master style, so they’re wonderful, sumptuous, and brilliant colors and vibrant so it’s just a really exciting opportunity.”
There will also be refreshments, a cash bar, and live music to round out the evening.
Snyder said not to fear if you can’t make it to the opening because the exhibit will be on display until January 10th, 2026.
“The Museum is really fortunate to bring this scale of an exhibition to Zanesville.” Snyder said. “It comes from a collector, her name is Annette Trembly, she is a lender to this museum and a good friend to this museum and she’s developed over the last 70 years, a very large collection of Howard Chandler Christy’s work. She actually was a descendant of Howard Chandler Christy so it’s all in the family, if you will, so we’ve developed a close kinship and relationship with Annette over the last several years. We’re happy to have this here for all of our public to see.”
The opening for the “Howard Chandler Christy: A Golden Age Master” exhibition kicks off at 5:30 and goes until 7:30PM.
