Zanesville Police Department Unveils Traffic Enforcement Vehicle
ZANESVILLE, OH – A new look is hitting the streets of Zanesville, and it’s coming from the police department.
The Zanesville Police Department just added a new traffic car to its fleet, and the vehicle looks different from the typical ZPD patrol unit. The department is in the process of assessing a dedicated traffic unit for the city.
“We got a brand-new Dodge Charger that’s going to be entering into the fleet for the Zanesville Police Department. It’s quite a departure from our normal look. I wanted to get the word out to the public so that when they see it in the area, they understand who it is and what its purpose is. The reason for the color was incidental. What we were looking for is a dedicated traffic enforcement officer. To have the appropriate equipment to do that, you really need to have the ability to have adequate acceleration, catch-up capability, and things like that.” ZPD Police Chief, Scott Comstock said.
The unit will focus on enforcing speeding laws, responding to crashes, and keeping an eye on traffic-heavy areas.
“If a citizen sees this vehicle out, they need to be aware of its intention. Its intention is to calm traffic and make enforcement. There will be various areas that it’ll be targeting. The hours of operation could be any time of the day. I would also like to enforce the fact that just because you see this car out, doesn’t mean that it’s the only vehicle that could stop somebody for a moving violation.” Chief Comstock said.
The new unit is already on patrol around Zanesville, so don’t be surprised if you spot a new set of lights in your rearview mirror.
