Zanesville Police stay up to date on training in case of emergency

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- With mass shootings happening across the country, many people are wondering how their local law enforcement agencies are preparing for any threat.
Here in Zanesville the police department trains often so they can be ready should any threat occur. We caught up with Chief Tony Coury who talked us through the need to be prepared and what Z-P-D is doing.
“For the past few years…with the domestic terrorism on the rise in the United States, you know, every agency started to look at that. We are actively seeking training for our officers. We’re sending them away. We’re working with them here locally, with our school systems to try to help eliminate that threat.”
Chief Coury also talked about the importance of going outside of the classroom to train the officers on how to handle different situations.
“Well I think we’re getting more into scenario based training rather than just read from a textbook and learn from that. We are actually trying to develop ways to train to where we’re actually in real life. We’re actually at Zanesville City Schools. We’re at the Colony Square Mall. We use an abandoned building across the city to just continue to train.”
The department has more training schools in the upcoming month.
