Zanesville Safety Committee Discusses New EMS Vehicle, Additional Officers

Public Safety Meeting

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Monday, the Zanesville Public Safety Committee held a meeting to discuss safety issues within the city.

Those issues were acquiring a new vehicle for the fire department, hiring two police officers for traffic enforcement and a group of deteriorating buildings on the 600 block of Main Street.

“Tonight, we had three items on the agenda. We wanted to talk about the possibility of buying a new EMS squad for the fire department. We wanted to talk about the possibility of — hiring a couple of new police officers for traffic enforcement and we wanted to discuss the buildings of — in the 600 block of Main Street in Zanesville, here, said Chairman of the Public Safety Committee Rob Sharrer.

Sharrer says the group needs to look at if there is room in the budget for these safety improvements. The EMS vehicle needing replaced has been in use since 1996.

“Tonight we discussed the fact that we have a 1996 vehicle. We require for the ambulance companies here in town — we require that they use vehicles that are no older than seven-years-old. And it’s been discussed that maybe we should kind of follow our own logic there.”

Sharrer says the demolition day for the group of buildings is scheduled for Dec. 1 but that date could be delayed.
